about

Recorded primarily while on a road trip in the spring of 2012 with dear friends Wendy and Geof. I recorded the last three tracks (those with voice & acoustic guitar) inside a 100 year old beehive shaped charcoal kiln. The reverb on these tracks is the sound of the room, as recorded from the exact center of the kiln.

about

John Givens Berkeley, California

Thanks for listening.

I've been making music for 25 years now, usually behind a loud band. Its only in the last 5 years that I've begun playing solo and composing for moving pictures. My past work as a film maker and Art Director have exposed me to many projects where I've had to source sounds. Now I make my own. enjoy.

Track Name: my vanishing point
you remember everything
you remember everything
you remember everything
bring it back for me

the taste of the gum
in the baseball pack
the sound of the fuse
of the fire crack.

there's a rock in my hand
I let it fly
the glass just broke
I learn to lie

you remember everything
you remember everything
you remember everything
bring it back for me

there was the day
I ran away
climbed out on the roof
and hid in the dusk

would I be gone for good
of this neighborhood
this vantage point
is my vanishing point

I don't know
but you don't care
I don't know
but you don't care
lets go home.
Track Name: independence day
and she was
the first one to leave.
and she was
holding court from the ground.
and she was
easter and bourbon
motown and daisies
holding court from the ground

we're sitting in the dark, talking
the bottoms of our souls touching
what can we learn from tragedy?

and he was
a sinner and a savior
and he was
awkward and sexy
and he was
red boots and disco
hot dogs and devo
the city and the cool

what can we learn,
what can we learn,
from our grief?
what can we learn,
what can we learn,
from insanity?

and I was
the keeper of his secret
and I was
there when she left
and I was
instantly adult
breathless and stubborn
a ressusitation
of the dream.
